Botanical Garden, ooty

22 acres -botanical garden was laid out in 1847.A flower show along with an exhibition of rare plant species is held every may month .The garden has a 20 million year old fossillized tree 

Ooty lake ,Ooty

Ooty lake covers an area of 65 acres.The Boat house established alongside the lake, which offers boating facilities to tourists, is a major tourist attraction in Ooty.

Doddabetta peak ,Ooty

Doddabetta is the highest mountain in the Nilgiri Hills at 2,637 metres (8,650 feet). There is a reserved forest area around the peak. It is 9 km from Ooty,on the Ooty-Kotagiri Road in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu, South India. It is a popular tourist attraction with road access to the summit. The Chamundi Hills can be viewed from the peak

Avalanche lake, ooty

Avalanche Lake (Avalanchi lake) is located 28 kilometers from Ooty in the Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu.The lake derived the name avalanche because of a huge land slide (avalanche) that occurred in the region in the early 1800s.

Nilgiri mountain railway, Ooty

Western Catchment is an area of natural beauty in The Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, situated about 20 km from Ooty. The Western Catchment area is protected by the Forest Department, and tourists are not allowed in without permission. Earlier some regional movies were filmed here, but due to environmental protection permission is no longer given

This place is known for its tea estates which includes one of the oldest tea estates in the region known as the Glenmorgan tea estate. Pykara Lake, ooty

Pykara is the name of a village and river located 19 km from Ooty in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu. The Pykara River is considered very sacred by the Todas. It rises at Mukurthi peak, flows northwards, and then turns to the west after reaching the edge of the plateau.The river flows through Murkurti, Pykara and Glen Morgan dams, and forms part of an important hydro-electric power project.

Tribal Research Center, Ooty

The Tribal Museum is part of the campus of Tribal Research Centre which is in Muthorai Palada (10 km from Ooty town). It is home to rare artifacts and photographs of tribal groups of Tamil Nadu as well as Andaman and Nicobar Islands and anthropological and archaeological primitive human culture and heritage. The Tribal Museum also displays houses belongs to Toda, Kota, Paniya, Kurumba and Kanikarans

Ketti Valley View ooty

Valley View is a tourist spot in Ooty, India. It is located on the Ooty Coonoor road (NH 67) at a distance of 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) from Ooty bus stand and constitutes ward number 5 of the Nilgiris Lok Sabha constituency.It has a spectacular view of the Ketti valley and is an important tourist centre in Ooty. Valley View is considered the Switzerland of Southern India. The valley extends from the Mysore plateau to the Coimbatore plains and is one of the largest valleys in the world.

Honey & Bee Museum, ooty

The Honey & Bee Museum’ is a novel project at Ooty by the NGO, Keystone Foundation. It depicts information on indigenous honey bees and traditional indigenous tribal people who harvest them. It also has a children’s activity room and a small knowledge resource unit on bees, environment and people.

Ootacamund Gymkhana Golf, Ooty
Ootacamund Gymkhana Club, situated on the rolling Wenlock Downs at a height of 7000 ft above sea level, is one of the finest natural golf courses in the world. This course is a 18 hole , 6235 yard ,Par 70 layout with huge changes in elevation . With the Avalanchi range surrounding the course & a mature and heavily wooded treeline that consists of eucalyptus, oak, rhododendron and fir to contend with this is a challenging course. First time players & the older players should ideally play just 9 holes as the sheer uphill & downhill slopes will tire the best of us.

Needle Rock View Point , ooty

Needle Rock View Point is a tourist spot in Gudalur, The Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu. Where the Gudalur is located 51 km on the west of Ooty and the Needle Rock viewpoint is about 8 km from Gudalur on the way of Gudalur-Ooty National Highway-67. The view point gives you a 360 degree view. The view point is also known as Soochimalai and gets its name from its conical shape.

Mudumalai Wildlife
Sanctuary,Ooty

Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary & National Park is situated at the tri-junction of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka on the North Eastern Slopes of the Nilgiris part of Western Ghats descending to the Mysore Plateau. An erstwhile game reserve, Mudumalai was declared a wildlife sanctuary with a 62 sq KM area in the early 1940 by the then Madras Presidency.

Deer Park , OOty

Deer Park is located on the edge of Ooty Lake. It is considered as one of the high altitude zoo in India aside from the zoo in Nainital, Uttarakhand. This park was formed to house a number of species of deers and animals for travelers to view.

Stone House ,Ooty

Stone House is the first bungalow constructed in Ooty. It was built by John Sullivan and was called as Kal Bangala by the tribals (Kal means stone in local tribal language). John Sullivan started building Stonehouse in 1822, acquiring land from the Todas at one rupee an acre. Today, it is the official residence for the principal of the Government Arts College, Ooty


Toda huts,Ooty

There are a few Toda huts on the hills above Botanical Garden, where Todas still dwell. There are other Toda settlements in the area, notably Kandal Mund near Old Ooty. Although many Toda have abandoned their traditional distinctive huts for concrete houses,a movement is now afoot to build tradition barrel-vaulted huts and during the last decade forty new huts have been built and many Toda sacred dairies renovated.
